Instagram Stories Get More Daily Users Than Snapchat Stories
It's been less than a year since Instagram introduced stories and they're already bigger than the app they directly copied - Snapchat.
Recently, the Facebook-owned app announced that more than 200 million people are using Instagram stories, every day! While Snapchat averaged 158 million daily users at the end of 2016. These are massive numbers for both Instagram and Snapchat, they are both up there with the most widely used apps.
If 200 million people are using the stories feature, that means that half of Instagram's 400 million daily users check out the feature, everyday!
This is definitely something to think about if you're using Instagram as a marketing tool. Instagram stories get featured at the top of the 'Explore Page' in the app, allowing users to find and view your content without directly interacting with your account page or being your follower. This can be a great chance to make an impression with potential clients or customers.
Instagram has also adopted some more of Snapchat's features. Its direct messaging feature was updated to be more reminiscent of Snapchat. Also, you can now tack text, emoticons, or stickers to specific spots or objects in videos. Put an emoji on over a face, and the image will move around with whatever object it's pinned to. This is already possible to do with Snapchat among other features Instagram has added recently!
This shift in people's attention means you have to change your marketing focus depending on your business or brands use of the stories feature. We know more and more people are making the change to other platforms beyond Facebook but it's important not to spread yourself too thin. Thankfully, you may not have to learn Snapchat if Instagram stories continue to grow at this rate.
