How to Rank on Higher Google Search Results

Today's article is PART 1 of a series for people who need to know about using their website to help their business but aren't necessarily technically oriented. I'll address this over a series of articles in short, plain-English, non-geek language.

Everybody wants their website to rank higher on Google. This is pretty simple and complicated at the same time. Here are some of the basics of search engine optimization and Google search engine rankings you need to know.

First things first: What you need to know about Google search engine rankings.

Google Rankings Vary - Plain & Simple

  • Google rankings are NOT universal
  • They vary from region to region and even computer to computer or phone to phone or tablet device to tablet device for the same keyword searches

Why Do Google Rankings Vary?

  • Google notes it wants to return the best results for each individual because this, in theory, will keep them the most popular search engine in the world
  • Keeping them the most popular search engine in world means sustainable profits for Google
  • As a result... Google CUSTOMIZES search results wherever possible to provide the best results for its end users

What Factors Does Google Use?

  • These sources include Google products like GMail, your Google+ page, Google+ button clicks, Google maps, Google Reader, YouTube and much more.

One might argue that this is kind of like "Big Brother" with Google being the Brother. • If you are focused primarily on your website rankings to drive your online business STOP IT RIGHT NOW!
  • Focus more on building great content, routinely on your website and do your best to promote this through a variety of channels including social media (think Facebook, Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn, etc), email marketing, other peoples websites or online channels
