Web Design ProcessWeb Design Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How Long Does It Take to Develop a Website?

This depends on the complexity of the project. A fairly straightforward web design project could be completed in as little as 3 or 4 weeks. We have worked night and day to develop a few websites in under a week - completed at a premium price. A complex site involving a database or ecommerce might take several months or longer.

Websites Rates and Pricing

Pricing really depends on many factors. Consider this analogy:

You're in the market for a new car. You phone up a car dealership and say, "How much for a car?" Before the salesman can answer he or she needs to know things like... "What kind of car do you need or want? What are you going to use the car for? What about options?" Is all that you are really looking for at this point is a price range?

Depending on the different dealerships you contact, you'll get responses ranging from $10,000 for basic transportation to $450,000 for prestigious luxury car.

Buying websites is similar to buying a new car in this manner. The price range varies according to what you want, site function and quality. In order to give you an accurate price range for your project, we'll meet with you - in person, online or over the phone - to determine several key issues like:

  • What are your business/website goals?
  • How large will your site be? How many pages? How much content?
  • Do you require our copywriting services or will you supply copy?
  • Do you require the site to be optimized for search engines?
  • Will there be dynamic elements like database of products?
  • Do you want a content management system so you can make changes yourself?
  • What about marketing? Maintenance? Traffic and ranking analytics?

WHITE PAPER - How to Design & Build a Website

All of these factors influence our website quotations. Our typical prices range from $2,000 (Canadian dollars) for a basic, very well built website. Ecommerce sites may start from $7,500. Complex database driven sites are often $10,000 and up. All Custom Built sites are developed to a very demanding standard.

Website Design Quotations, Proposals or Payment

We put our quotations in writing. You pay what we quote unless, of course, the job scope changes at your request. Here is our typical quotation to delivery process:

  1. Free initial consultation - By phone, on-line and/or in-person depending the size and scope of the project and your physical location.
  2. Results Analysis - We research how be can positively affect your business e.g. How much can we increase your revenues? Decrease your costs? Make running your business easier?
  3. Proposal Presentation - We will present our proposal in-person and/or by phone, depending on the project size and scope and your physical location. We typically base our price based upon the value that we can bring to your company (e.g. Increase in YOUR revenues or YOUR decreased costs that our work results in.) Our proposals lists the following:
  • Introduction,
  • Strategy & Recommendations,
  • Rates & Estimated Scope of Work,
  • Conclusion.
  1. Guarantee of Performance - We always aim for WIN-WIN situations. When you succeed, we succeed. We'll work with you to determine objectives for our work together. If we meet or exceed these objectives we will share our success. If we don't meet objectives we'll agree on how to resolve this.
  2. Proposal Acceptance - When we have agreed to price, terms and delivery we'll forward a Standard Terms agreement. This is typically an agreement that you sign once as it applies to each time we work with you. This agreement specifies things like:
  • Services,
  • Term of Contract,
  • Payment Terms including requests for changes to job scope and revisions,
  • Customer Responsibilities & Warranties,
  • Our Responsibilities & Warranties,
  • Confidentiality,
  • Custom Fit Employee Retention,
  • Interpretation,
  • Approval & Agreement.
  1. Payment Terms - This is our typical payment terms. Note that all prices are and listed in Canadian dollars and are subject to applicable taxes. In Canada, this includes G.S.T. for services (like copywriting) and P.S.T. and G.S.T. for products (like printed material).
  • Job/project work:
    E.g. website or logo development.
    • 50% deposit to commence work,
    • Balance, including expenses and hard costs, due upon final delivery of products or services.
    • Projects under $1,000 often require full payment before we commence work or within 14 days of commencement.
  • Ongoing work:
    E.g. website maintenance.
    • Monthly payment arranged with an automatic withdraw from your business chequing account, or credit card or by invoice for established clients.
