Increase Business by Strategic Web site Linking!

Search engines continually make changes and upgrades as to how they rank Web sites. It’s becoming clear that there is renewed emphasis regarding external links from one site to another, particular with Google. This is sometimes referred to as "Page Rank". Quality links from external Web sites that are well written will help get more of the right people to your own site.

The more external links you have, the more ways there are to get to your Web site. A link is like positive word-of-mouth advertising. It’s positively impacts your Web site rankings and traffic.

The more times people see links to your Web site, the more likely they are to visit. The more links you have, the more likely you are to rank high in search results. Here are some tips in regard to cultivating external links:

1. Links should be relevant.

If you’re selling "accounting" software, there’s not much point being linked to and from "wrestling" Web sites.

2. Be strategic when "reciprocal" linking.

In general, the fewer the links the other site has the better. If you’re just one link among a long list of links, there’s not much as much value there. Get linked from Web sites that are also well linked. The more those other Web sites are linked to the Web site that is linking to you, the more valuable a link from that site is.

3. Get links that reflect how people search.

Let’s say that your customers search for "New York Real Estate". If you can get links with that exact phrase, the chances of you being found during those types of searches will increase.

4. Refrain from changing the structure of your Web site.

If you change the structure, you risk breaking incoming links. If you do make changes, have a "404 Error" page that becomes available when visitors visit these "missing in action" pages indicating a particular page is no longer available. This page should contain links back to your site.
